Don’t Miss The Westwing Classic Pinewood Derby!
We have an exciting event to announce that is taking place in conjunction with the Westwing Classic Car show on November 9th.
While ‘Pinewood Derby’ may conjure up a nostalgic picture of wooden tracks from days gone by, we can assure you that this is no longer the case. Although the cars are still made of pinewood, the track is made of aluminum providing a sleek, 42-foot, 4-lane speedway! Results are posted on an electronic scoreboard indicating place, lap time, and MPH. Definitely a new level of excitement for an old-time favorite!
Prior to the November 9th Race Day, there will be two instructional classes held for car-building and rules. Classes will be held on September 12 and October 10th from 6:00-7:30 PM on the church campus. You can choose which class you want to attend on the registration page. While it is not mandatory to attend a class, it is a good way to know what to expect come race day.
There will be 2 race class categories:
**Under 18 years of age – Something fun to do with the kids, show them the finer points of racing!
**Over 18 years of age – Try your hand at building a new car. Or, if you still have your old car from when you were a kid, tune it up, add some graphite to the axels and come see if you still have what it takes to win!
